I started my bookstore in 1978, after a long period as a writer living in Europe. The bookstore is housed in a former Masonic Hall in the village of West Cornwall, Connecticut -- James Thurber lived here; so did Mark and Carl Van Doren. Philip Roth lives a few miles away and New Yorker writers and artists litter the landscape. The building is just uphill from one of Connecticut's two remaining covered bridges, and is in the far northwestern corner of the state.
With 45,000 or so books on the shelves, there are large selections of books about books, printing and typography, literature, poetry, diaries and letters, art, architecture, photography, fashion and costume, natural history, children's books, and many other categories. However, my real specialties are books on horticulture and landscape design and cookery and food.
I am a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America as well as the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers.
