Two volumes, 12 1/4 x 9 1/4 and 9 5/8 x 6 5/8", being both the "special" and "ordinary " versions of a promotional book to accompany the film "Samson and Delilah", which was released on October 31, 1949, and became a top moneymaker, starring Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr. The "special" version has full-color pictoral endpapers, blurbs by John Ringling North and Norman Rockwell, 34 pages of text and photographs in color and b/w, as well as a "behind-the-scenes" section by deMille. The book is bound in fuchsia satin with the cover title in gilt, and is housed in a box whose bottom section is avocado green paper on board and whose top section is covered in avocado green satin. The book is near fine; the box shows some soil on the paper side and some fading on the cloth side. The "ordinary" version has 32 pages, plain endpapers, no blurbs, and fewer and smaller photographs. It is bound in fuchsia satin on boards with a gilt title and is just about fine in a plain box covered in avocado green paper, somewha rubbed. An amazing pair of volumes, totally suited to this blockbuster of a film.
