Small octavo, vi, 417, (2)pp., with a two-page publisher's catalogue bound in, as well as a slip announcing C.S. Scott"s "The Baltic, the Black Sea and the Crimea" as being now ready. This is a vivid book of delightful essays on people, their manners, and what they wear. From a consideration of "Men, Manners, and a story with a Moral to It", the author goes on to write about hats, wigs, beards, swords, gloves, stockings, Englishmen with a connection to tailors (such as antiquarian and historian John Stow, who trained as one). Minor paper breaks at the endpapers else very good in warm brown cloth stamped in blind, lightly faded gilt spine title, a few small fore edge bumps and edgewear. This copy has the signature and armorial bookplate of C.Sedley Burdett of Shrubhurst (Oxted, Surrey) -- and a tiny binder's ticket of Edmonds & Remnants, London.

Octavo, 171pp., with drawings by Winifred Mury. A wonderfully practical text on how to get along on less money -- written during the great depression and quite appropriate right now. Ten lively chapters on coping with food, clothing, budget woes, housing and more, with, it seems, a basic message of "don't whine". There is an amusing chapter on "Can You Afford A Husband?" The author, an advocate for "bachelorettes" , was an assistant editor of Vogue. Very good in orchard cloth stamped gilt, top of spine just starting to fray.
