Philadelphia: Printed for Edward Earle & Co. by Fry and Kammerer, Printers,1810, the third edition, with additions, 215 x 129mm, xvi, 67,(1), xvi, 53 ,(3)pp. In two parts, with secodary titles for each, the preface to tghe second edition, the preface to the first edition, a separate dedication to the second part dated 1804, and a separate preface to the second part. The last two of (3) pages announce lectures at the University of Pennsylvania on Botany and Materia Medica, of which Dr. Smith was professor, as well as being professor of Natural History. Some browning and foxing, and with a waterstain about 1 inch deep at the upper gutter corner from the title page through page xiv. There are two signatures on the title page. The first is crossed out and (to me) illegible. The second is that of J. Linsly. Also present is his red stamp "Dr. J. Linsly, New York". This is likely to be Dr. Jared Linsly (1803-1887), a graduate of Yale, who practiced in New York, was physician to Cornelius Vanderbilt, and had a building built in his honor at Yale. The book was recently recased in quarter deep blue morocco and marbled paper on boards, compartmented spine, claret morocco spine title patch, and gilt spine ornaments. (Item ID: 3483)
