"Being a short and exact analysis of the whole body of modern geography, after a new and curious method. Comprehending: I. A general view of the terracqueous globe; II. A particular view of the terracqueous globe." London: Printed for D. Midwinter and others, 1741, "the seventeenth edition corrected and somewhat enlarged; and a set of new maps by Mr. Senex", 19 x 12 cm, [22] + 432pp., plus 17 maps, as follows: World, Europe,Scandinavia, Muscovy, France, Germany, Poland, Spain and Portugal, Italy, Turkey in Europe, Scotland, England, Ireland, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. On the North American map, California is shown as an island. "This Island was formerly esteem'd a Peninsula, but now found to be entirely surrounded with Water". Please note the following faults: The World map lacks the fold-out portion; the fold-out on the map of France is detached but present, and the fold-outs on both the North and South American maps are torn at the fold. Other that these faults, the maps are generally in very good condition. There are no endpapers or preliminary leaves, and the title page is waterstained and rubbed. The waterstain affects the four leaves following, and there are some other light waterstains and foxing throughout. Paper cracks at internal hinges, but otherwise tight in worn and rubbed brown leather, claret leather spine title patch. An adequate though not fine copy. (Item ID: 3475)
